Description
NWA 869 is one of the most famous meteorites. It is thought that by mass, it is the largest chondritic meteorite in the world with over 2 tons of recognized material. However, systematic data has not been obtained to prove it. It comes from an undisclosed location near Tindouf in the Sahara Desert. It was discovered in 2000.
When cut, NWA 869’s texture is heterogeneous as it is classified as an L3-6 chondrite. In the same piece, amazing chondrules can be seen (in the type 3 parts) with brecciated areas.
Most pieces are very small, in the 5-30 grams range. This piece is very big in comparison with other NWA 869 pieces.
Certificate of authenticity included. IMCA 5591.
