Description

In 1996, people looking for Gibeon meteorites stumbled upon some stones with a very high content of iron. A 22 kg stone plus 11 smaller pieces totaling ~18 kg were found at Korra Korrabes 72, in a dry river bed near the south east corner of this farm. Metal detectors were used to recover even more material over the next few years. The large 22 kg piece was used in a garden wall until 2000. Partially preserved fusion crust was present on a few small specimens.

Korra Korrabes is the 4th most massive unequilibrated high iron chondrite (brecciated H3 chondrite) listed at the Meteoritical Bulletin Database as of August 2015. A few pieces of the meteorite’s mass are held at the Geosciences Museum in Pretoria, South Africa.
