Description
The Karoonda meteorite fell to earth on 25 November 1930 at 10:53 pm. It was observed by the neighbors of the state of South Australia who saw the fireball and heard detonations.
It is considered to be one scientifically of the the most important meteorites in history as it created a new classification. Meteorites of this type had never been studied so scientists created a new sub-category in the carbonaceous meteorites (C); the Karoonda-like (K), hence CK.
It is one of the most sought after meteorites and cannot be missing in any collection. Most specimens are now in museums or in private collections and are barely offered for sale anymore.
