Description
Lunar meteorites are the result of another meteorite hitting the Moon and releasing its rock into space, where they were floating for probably millions of years until their trajectory led them to Earth. This lunar feldspathic breccia meteorite is from the famous yet recently discovered strewn field in Algeria.
It is known that these meteorites are from the Moon because lunar rocks were picked up and brought to Earth in the Apollo missions, testing their composition and then scientifically proving that they cannot come from any other part of the Solar System but from the Moon.
This piece is a feldspathic breccia. It is classified as lunar meteorite, Bechar 006. It was found in Algeria in the spring of 2022.
