Description

Lunar meteorites are the result of another meteorite hitting the Moon and releasing its rock into space, where they were floating for probably millions of years until their trajectory led them to Earth.

It is known that these meteorites are from the Moon because lunar rocks were picked up and brought to Earth in the Apollo missions, testing their composition and then scientifically proving that they cannot come from any other part of the Solar System but from the Moon.

This specimen is a feldspathic breccia composed of mineral clasts and sparse troctolitic lithic clasts set in fine grained, partly glassy matrix. Minerals are predominantly plagioclase and olivine suggesting presence of abundant troctolite throughout the meteorite.
